Many people who are devout Christians are in two minds about tithing. There exist tow schools of thought on this issue. One says the priesthood tribe of Levi is no longer with us and the Law has passed away so we are not obligated. The other side says the Law still exists and quote Malachi to support their claims. This is brought to you for your peace of mind.
I find I get a better message out of me when I reach into my heart and bring out a couple of stories. So here are a couple of stories.
I came across some pretty devout men of God called The Jesus Christians who taught that we only love Jesus by obeying His commands and if we do not obey what He taught we are only paying lip service to our faith. They convicted me to look at the 50 commands of Jesus and start to obey them. One of Jesus commands says that we should give to everybody who asks of us. So for four years I gave money to every person that asked me for money when I had money. I gave away about $5000
Well that taught me to have compassion and to love, and to think more highly of my brother then myself. I have to say that I started to see Jesus in visions in this time and the more I obeyed Him the more I fell in love with Him and liked doing what He taught.
I have never really been into the message that if you give to the Lord he will repay you a hundred-fold or even repay you. I have always given to the Lords ministries or t poor people because I wanted to make the Lord happy and not for self gain.
I think that this is a major factor to do with whether the Lord will allow money to come back to you. The Lord sees "why you are giving" and if that is a selfish motive, I think he ignores your gift. I know if the Lord puts on your heart to give to a person, that the Lord will see that you are blessed back.
So here I had given away $5000 to the homeless people in four years without expecting a return and then in two months my brother bought me a computer, a sofa lounge and my parents paid for a $3000 mission trip to India.
I gave about $1000 to another ministry and then shortly after our government gave all the pensioners a thousands dollar grant in the economic downturn to boost our economy.
My testimony proves that when you give out of a good heart, God restores it to you. My life is blessed and many peoples lives that I give to are blessed also as well as the Lord being blessed as I am doing what He wants me to do.
So where does that leave you if you do not agree with tithing? Well if you don't like tithing, God won't bless you if you do. God loves a cheerful giver. God is rich, the whole world is His. He does not need your money anyway. He is not losing sleep because you are not giving. Yet, God loves to bless the people that give to Him.
Why don't you find some struggling people in your church and give to them. That will make you feel good.
