Blessed Are Those That Hunger and Thirst For Righteousness - Matthew 5:6

Oh what a wonderful world we would live in if all the people of the world thirsted for God to help them always be right in all that they do! Oh what a world it would be if the church was really pressing into God to be holy! A short article about this passage.

Matthew 5:6 in the New King James Version of the Bible reads,

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled

Have you ever been really thirsty and parched? Have you gone hours without that need being satisfied? Have you ever been really starving and gone without food for so long that it made it hard to get to sleep, such was your hunger?
Well ladies and gentleman that is what some people are like to live a life that is holy and free of sin. Some people really seek a righteousness that far surpasses the average Christian. Some people just want to walk in the Spirit so much that they simply cease sinning.

Have you ever sought the holy life like that? Have you thirsted for right living before God like you were thirsting for a drink? Have you pursued righteousness like you would pursue food if you hadn't eaten for a week?

Not many people think a nearly sinless life is possible. The church seems to think that the cross is only about being forgiven for sins, yet the cross and the blood of Jesus have the power to stop sin through true repentance. This promise from Jesus is that if you pursue the holy life with all that you have, you will possess what you want.

In my time on Earth I have met two apostles of God and when I asked both of them if they sin at all, I was told that they rarely sinned. Jesus would not promise something that wasn't possible.

One person in the public eye that you might say is filled with righteousness is Heidi Baker of Iris Ministries. She has a book titled "Compelled by Love" that is a more thorough teaching on the beatitudes.
